Dr. Ricmar P. Aquino, University President of lsabela State University (ISU), was elected as the first President of the International Organization on Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM).

The said organization was created on October 22, 2018 during the organization meeting at ISUEchague. The meeting was participated by the different heads of agencies and State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in the county.

The International Organization aimed at promoting integration on climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction management; providing disaster-vulnerable communities; and assisting in the solving of environmental problems in close cooperation with the community people themselves.

Dr. Aquino thanked the participants across the country and from the different countries whom he addressed as the risk-reduction managers. He emphasized the significance of the conglomeration of the participants in addressing climate change and disaster risks brought by natural phenomena. ”As we share and integrate our best practices, we collaboratively strengthen the adaptive and resilient capability of our citizens,” he said. He also said that the operationally combined local, traditional, and scientific knowledge will help empower the community in reducing the impact of climate change.

The organization is in partnership with the National Taiwan Ocean University and National Taiwan University. Dr. Aquino said that Philippines and Taiwan are the countries which usually experience natural calamities such as typhoons. “The Philippines is usually visited by typhoon before it reaches Taiwan and so we come up with this kind of initiative in order to share ideas and best practices on how to improve our systems and in making our country safe,” Dr. Aquino said as he explained why the said organization was created.

Before Dr. Aquino ended his message, he hoped that the goals of the organization will be attained and that the world will sustain an abundant life and biodiversity.
